A Scene Right Out of the Sitcom

Hello to our fabulous readers!  Lucy recently celebrated a birthday, which means it is that wonderful time of year when she is older than Ethel… Yay for Eth, boo for Luce.  To celebrate, Ethel planned a fall themed spa night which included pumpkin facials, pumpkin pie foot scrubs, homemade M&M cookie ice cream sandwiches and apple cider martinis! (Ethel is such a good friend :))  We were a sight to be seen in Ethel’s living room! Picture orange faces and bare feet doused in pumpkin pie filling while we sipped our martinis. The only thing missing was an unforeseen event causing us to panic whilst we were immobilized. Basically, this is why you have girlfriends. Because Fred and Ricky, though loved dearly, just do not get it.

The pumpkin facial and foot scrub are from an article found on www.SparkPeople.com entitled Natural Pumpkin Skincare Recipes.  Our faces are now glowing and our feet and legs are soft and smooth.  The apple cider martini recipe is as follows:

IMG_20131121_201839_041Apple Cider Martini

  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh apple cider
  • 2 shots vodka
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar mixture

In a small sauce over medium heat, combine orange juice, sugar and cinnamon.  Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes until mixture turns to a syrup consistency.  Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.  Spread cinnamon sugar on a small plate.  Grab two martini glasses, dip the rims into the syrup and then into the cinnamon sugar.  Pour one shot of vodka into each glass then add 1/2 cup apple cider to each.  Gently stir and enjoy!

These martinis were AWESOME. The vodka cuts the sweetness of the cider just enough while the cinnamon rim adds the perfect amount of spice. We highly recommend them for any fall occasion. They would even be a great addition to your Thanksgiving spread…which leads us into our next post; A Very Lucy and Ethel Thanksgiving! Next Thursday Ethel is hosting, the boys are deep frying the bird and we will be concocting several recipes including another fall beverage. As always stay tuned!
